Melanoides tuberculata
Origin: Africa, Asia (widely distributed)
Melanoides tuberculata, the Malaysian Trumpet Snail (MTS), is one of the most beneficial snails for planted aquariums. They burrow through the substrate during the day, aerating it and preventing anaerobic pockets. They emerge at night to graze on algae, detritus, and uneaten food. Excellent for planted tank maintenance. Pack of 20.
Thrives in any freshwater aquarium. Feed on algae and detritus — no special food needed, but algae wafer or blanched vegetables are beneficial. Can overpopulate if overfed. Most fish ignore them; pufferfish and assassin snails control populations. Breed readily in warm water.
