Aulonocara stuartgranti 'Maleri'
Also known as: Maleri Peacock, Maleri Island Peacock
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Maleri Peacock is a geographically distinct population of Aulonocara stuartgranti found around Maleri and Namalenje Islands. This form tends to display particularly rich golden-yellow colouration on the lower body and flanks of mature males. Like other stuartgranti variants, it hunts by hovering above sandy substrates and sensing prey vibrations.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline with low nitrates. Tank: 200L minimum; sand substrate is essential for natural foraging behaviour. Feeding: Sandy substrate feeding with sinking pellets and frozen invertebrates. Behaviour: Males competitive with one another; a single dominant male per tank is ideal. Compatibility: Pairs well with other mid-sized Malawi haps and non-Aulonocara peacocks.
