Chromidotilapia mamonekenei
Also known as: Mamonekenei Cichlid
Origin: Central Africa (Congo basin)
Chromidotilapia mamonekenei is an uncommon species in the hobby, collected from Congo basin drainages. It shares the biparental mouthbrooding strategy of the genus and has its own distinctive colour pattern. Its rarity makes it attractive to specialists, though its care is similar to other Chromidotilapia once appropriate water conditions are established.
Water: 23–27°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft to medium hardness. Tank: Minimum 120L; caves, plants, open substrate for potential pit-digging. Feeding: Varied diet including pellets, frozen daphnia, bloodworm, and small invertebrates. Behaviour: Biparental mouthbrooder; can be quite secretive outside of breeding periods. Compatibility: Suitable with medium West African tetras; avoid boisterous or fin-nipping species.
