Betta mandor is a mouthbrooding wild Betta described from the Mandor area of West Kalimantan, Borneo. It inhabits forest streams and swamps with soft, acidic blackwater conditions. Males display attractive iridescent blue-green scaling and orange-red fin margins. It requires specialised conditions and is best suited to dedicated wild Betta enthusiasts.
Water: temp 22–28°C, pH 4.5–6.5, soft, slightly acidic water; peat and catappa leaves recommended. Tank: minimum 80L; densely planted blackwater setup with driftwood and hiding spots. Feeding: carnivore — live and frozen invertebrates; earthworms; may accept pellets. Behaviour: peaceful; males mouthbrood eggs and fry for 2–3 weeks. Compatibility: suitable with other small to medium blackwater species; avoid hard-water fish.
