Ageneiosus marmoratus belongs to the family Auchenipteridae and is distinguished by its unusually rounded, almost blunt snout and marbled body patterning. It is a sizeable predatory catfish from South American rivers that requires expert care and substantial space. Its unusual silhouette and bold markings make it an intriguing choice for experienced keepers with large display aquariums.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard (GH 2–12). Tank: 800+ L for adults; minimal decor; powerful filtration and excellent water quality. Feeding: Large meaty frozen foods, fish fillet, earthworms, and large sinking pellets. Behaviour: Solitary predator; actively swims mid-water; predatory toward smaller fish. Compatibility: Only suitable with very large, robust fish in specialist aquarium settings.
