Premnas biaculeatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Premnas biaculeatus — the maroon or spine-cheeked clownfish — is the largest and most aggressive clownfish species. The gold-striped form has white or gold lateral stripes. Females can reach 17 cm and become extremely territorial. They are associated with Entacmaea quadricolor (BTA) in nature. Despite their aggression toward other fish, they are generally reef-safe. Only suitable for tanks with a dedicated host anemone and few or no other clownfish.
Light: any. Flow: moderate. Feed: robust omnivore diet. Single pair only — one of the most aggressive clownfish. BTA host strongly recommended. Not for community reefs.
