Marvelous Killifish

Fundulopanchax mirabilis is one of the largest and most ornate of all Fundulopanchax, found in the forested streams of Cameroon. Males develop extraordinary fin extensions on the dorsal and caudal fins, covered in a mosaic of red, orange, blue, and green spots. Its size and assertiveness demand a spacious species tank, and its demanding water quality requirements place it firmly in the advanced keeper category.

Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft and clean water essential. Tank: 40 L+ species tank; tall tank preferred for fin display; secure lid. Feeding: Large live and frozen invertebrates; blood worm, Artemia, earth worms. Behaviour: Males intensely territorial and can harm females; keep trio with many hiding spots. Compatibility: Species tank only; too large and aggressive for community killifish tanks.
