Paracheilinus mccoskeri
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Philippines to Maldives
Paracheilinus mccoskeri is arguably the most popular flasher wrasse, with males erupting into a kaleidoscope of red, orange, and electric blue during courtship flashing displays. Females are a more subdued pinkish-orange. The species is hardy once feeding and rewards patient observers with near-constant flashing behaviour throughout the day.
House in a reef aquarium of at least 150 L with a tight-fitting lid. Feed frozen mysis, copepods, and quality marine pellets multiple times daily. Reef-safe and peaceful. Best kept as the only male of its species. Provide open swimming areas where males will display. One of the best flasher wrasses for the hobby.
