Melanoides granifera
Origin: Southeast Asia
Melanoides granifera is a small, elongated freshwater snail with a distinctive granular, ribbed shell texture differentiating it from other trumpet snails. A burrowing species that aerates the substrate as it moves, helping to prevent anaerobic pockets from forming in planted tanks. Like other melanoides, it is a prolific livebarer that can establish large, self-sustaining populations.
Simply introduce a few individuals into an established aquarium — they multiply naturally and do not need special care. Thrive in planted tanks with fine substrate where they can burrow freely. Feed on detritus, biofilm, algae, and uneaten fish food. Completely safe with all fish and invertebrates. Population can be managed by reducing feeding.
