Origin: Papua New Guinea (southern lowlands)
Melanotaenia kamaka is native to lowland river systems in southern Papua New Guinea. Like many less commonly traded melanotaeniids, it is valued by specialist collectors for its subtle colouration and interesting natural history. Requires standard rainbowfish care with good water quality and a spacious, well-planted aquarium.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water. Tank: 120 L+, planted with open swimming areas and strong filtration. Feeding: Omnivore; flakes, pellets, and regular frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; displays best in mixed-sex groups. Compatibility: Good community fish with other rainbowfish and peaceful species.
