Melanotaenia sp. "Ajamaru" represents an undescribed form from the Ajamaru area of West Papua that exhibits unique colour variation compared to the formally described M. ajamaruensis and M. boesemani from the same region. Popular among collectors who appreciate geographic variants and undescribed forms, it requires the same hard, alkaline water conditions as its relatives.
Water: 25–30°C, pH 7.0–8.0, hard water (GH 10–20, KH 5–12). Tank: 150 L+, open swimming space with robust plants or no plants. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; males display vivid colour to rivals. Compatibility: Excellent community fish; best kept as a pure species to preserve uniqueness.
