Melanotaenia sp. "Sorong" originates from river systems around the Sorong area of West Papua, near the northwestern tip of New Guinea. Its unique regional colouration, distinct from formally described species in the area, makes it a desirable specimen for collectors who seek out geographic rainbowfish variants. Requires standard lowland melanotaeniid care.
