About

Melanotaenia sp. "Sorong" originates from river systems around the Sorong area of West Papua, near the northwestern tip of New Guinea. Its unique regional colouration, distinct from formally described species in the area, makes it a desirable specimen for collectors who seek out geographic rainbowfish variants. Requires standard lowland melanotaeniid care.

Care Guide

Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water. Tank: 120 L+, open swimming space with plants at the margins. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; best in mixed-sex groups. Compatibility: Good community fish; best kept as a pure species to preserve locality.
