Origin: Indonesia (West Papua, Timika)
Melanotaenia sp. "Timika" is found in river systems in the Timika area of southern West Papua, near the southern coast of New Guinea. It is a robust, bold-coloured form with characteristics that distinguish it from nearby described species. Like most lowland New Guinea melanotaeniids, it adapts well to aquarium life with moderate water hardness and good feeding.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water. Tank: 120 L+, open swimming space, planted margins, regular water changes. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and frozen/live supplement foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; best in mixed-sex groups of 6+. Compatibility: Good community fish; best kept as a pure species to preserve locality.
