Melanotaenia vanheurni is found across lowland river systems in both Papua New Guinea and West Papua, where it inhabits slow-moving, moderately hard water. Its moderately deep body profile and attractive blue-silver colouration with stripe markings make it an appealing mid-sized species. A robust and adaptable rainbowfish that thrives with good feeding and regular water maintenance.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard water. Tank: 150 L+, open swimming space with planted margins and strong filtration. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and regular frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; best in mixed-sex groups of 6+. Compatibility: Excellent community fish with other rainbowfish and peaceful species.
