Haludaria fasciata (formerly Puntius fasciatus) is endemic to a small number of river systems in Kerala and Karnataka in southwestern India. Males in breeding condition develop striking orange-red full-body colouration with contrasting dark lateral blotches, while females remain more subdued. It is a naturally schooling fish that appreciates clear, well-oxygenated water with moderate flow and planted cover.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderate (GH 5–15); well-oxygenated. Tank: 100 L minimum; planted with open swimming space and moderate current. Feeding: Omnivore; flake, pellets, algae-based foods, and frozen bloodworm or brine shrimp. Behaviour: Peaceful active schooler; keep in groups of 6+; males display to each other. Compatibility: Good with other South Asian cyprinids, small tetras, and corydoras.
