Chaetodon mertensii
Origin: Pacific Ocean
Mertens' Butterflyfish (Chaetodon mertensii) has a white body boldly crossed with black vertical bars, a yellow posterior and tail, and an orange saddle above the tail base. Moderately hardy for a butterflyfish, it can be trained onto frozen foods in a well-established system. Best kept as a mated pair or single specimen in a roomy FOWLR aquarium.
House in a FOWLR aquarium of at least 180 L. Train onto frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and quality marine pellets with patience. Provide open swimming space and live rock. Peaceful with most other marine fish. Allow sufficient acclimation time with varied food offerings.
