Mesonauta egregius is a close relative of the Flag Cichlid (M. festivus) from the Orinoco and its tributaries. It displays bold black patterning and a characteristic diagonal body stripe running from mouth to dorsal fin. Peaceful and relatively undemanding, it suits a well-planted large community aquarium.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft to slightly hard water. Tank: Minimum 200L, well-planted with tall plants and driftwood for cover. Feeding: Quality cichlid flake, pellets, frozen bloodworm, and occasional live foods. Behaviour: Peaceful cichlid with mild territory defence during spawning. Compatibility: Compatible with large tetras, peaceful cichlids, corydoras, and plecos.
