About
Mesonauta festivus — the festivum or flag cichlid — has a distinctive diagonal black stripe from the mouth through the eye to the dorsal fin, giving it a flag-like appearance. It is one of the more peaceful medium cichlids and can be kept in community tanks with larger, robust tetras and catfish. In the wild it is found among aquatic vegetation and benefits from a planted aquarium setup. It pairs for breeding and both parents guard the eggs.
