Microcharacidium eleotrioides
Origin: Venezuela and Colombia, South America
Microcharacidium eleotrioides is one of the smallest and most unusual characins from the blackwater drainages of Venezuela and Colombia, resembling a goby more than a typical tetra in body form and behaviour. It spends much of its time resting on leaves and substrate rather than open-water swimming and feeds on minute invertebrates. A specialist species for experienced aquarists running blackwater nano systems.
Maintain in a blackwater nano aquarium of at least 20 L with very soft, extremely acidic water (pH 4.0–6.0). Use RO water with peat or tannin extracts. Feed live and frozen micro-foods (artemia nauplii, micro-worms, infusoria). Only house with appropriately tiny, peaceful fish. Not for beginners.
