Microdevario erythromicron
Also known as: Micro Danio, Ember Microdevario
Origin: Myanmar (Inle Lake)
Microdevario erythromicron is among the smallest vertebrates kept in the aquarium hobby, rarely exceeding 2 cm. Native to Lake Inle and associated waters in Myanmar's Shan State, it inhabits shallow, densely vegetated margins with slightly alkaline water—unusual conditions for such a minute fish. Its body is semi-transparent with a faint orange-pink blush and delicate barring. In the aquarium it is best maintained in a mature nano tank of 20 L or more with dense planting, dark substrate, and extremely gentle filtration to avoid current that would exhaust the fish. A species-only setup or pairing with equally tiny, peaceful companions such as small Boraras or Danio erythromicron works best. Diet must consist of micro-sized foods: nano pellets, baby brine shrimp, cyclops, and infusoria for fry.
Water: Temperature 20–24 °C, pH 7.0–7.8, GH 8–15; gentle, mature filtration; no strong current. Tank: 20 L minimum; heavily planted species tank; dark substrate; sponge filter. Feeding: Nano pellet, cyclops, baby brine shrimp, and infusoria; micro-sized foods only. Breeding: Egg-scatterer; spawns among fine plants; fry very tiny — infusoria essential first food. Compatibility: Species tank recommended; may be kept with equally tiny, non-competitive nano fish.
