Hemigrammus mimus
Origin: Brazil, Peru (Amazon basin)
Hemigrammus mimus is a seldom-encountered tetra from the Amazon basin that resembles several better-known Hemigrammus species, making it a prized find for tetra enthusiasts. Its slim, silvery body is highlighted by faint orange-red hues at the caudal base and delicate finnage. In a well-planted aquarium under soft, slightly acidic water, groups of Mimus Tetras create a shimmering, natural schooling display.
Keep in groups of at least 8 in a planted aquarium with subdued lighting and dark substrate to bring out best coloration. Maintain soft, slightly acidic water with gentle filtration. Feed fine flake foods, micro-pellets, and small frozen foods such as daphnia and baby brine shrimp.
