Geosesarma sp. 'Mini'
Also known as: Mini Vampire Crab, Nano Vampire Crab
Origin: Indonesia (locality undisclosed)
The Mini Vampire Crab Geosesarma sp. 'Mini' is a trade form of undescribed Geosesarma distinguished by its exceptionally small adult size — mature individuals rarely exceed 1.5 cm carapace width — making it one of the smallest vampire crabs available in the hobby. Body colouration varies between trade lots but commonly shows dark brown to burgundy tones with the vivid yellow or orange eyes typical of the genus.
Despite its diminutive proportions, this form requires the same fundamental paludarium conditions as larger Geosesarma: moist tropical soil substrate, living moss carpets, leaf litter, cork bark hides, and a shallow water section. The nano scale of this crab makes it suitable for very small paludariums of 20–30 L — a significant advantage for keepers with limited space who nonetheless want a true vampire crab.
It is believed to be a direct developer, and has been bred in captivity in bioactive paludarium setups. Its tiny size makes it vulnerable to larger enclosure mates, so it must be kept in a species-specific setup. A fine-mesh or solid lid is absolutely essential — even the smallest gap will allow escape.
Water: 23–28°C, pH 7.5–8.0, GH 5–15, KH 2–10; very shallow water section; no chlorine or copper. Tank: minimum 20 L nano paludarium; fine-mesh lid; dense moss, tropical soil, leaf litter, micro cork hides. Feeding: omnivore — micro dried insects, fruit flies, powdered invertebrate food, tiny blanched greens; feed small portions daily. Breeding: direct developer; female broods small clutch; micro juveniles independent on hatching; species-specific tank. Compatibility: species-only; do not mix with any other animals; fine-mesh escape-proof lid critical at all times.
