Neocaridina davidi var. 'Mint Chocolate Chip'
Also known as: Mint Chocolate Chip Shrimp, Mint Chip Neocaridina
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Taiwan and China
The Mint Chocolate Chip Shrimp is a novelty Neocaridina davidi morph selectively bred to combine a pale mint-green to soft white base body with contrasting dark brown or black spotting, evoking the popular ice cream flavor. A rare color combination in the Neocaridina world, this morph is prized by collectors for its unique and charming aesthetic. Despite its unusual appearance, the Mint Chocolate Chip retains the full hardiness and breeding prolificacy of all Neocaridina davidi variants. The spot pattern and intensity can vary between individuals and batches, making each shrimp a slightly unique specimen. Best displayed against dark substrates where the mint base and dark spots create maximum contrast.
Water: pH 6.5–8.0, TDS 150–400 ppm, temperature 18–28°C; standard tap water acceptable. Tank: 20+ litres; dark substrate preferred; planted with mosses and fine-leaf plants. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, blanched vegetables, standard Neocaridina shrimp pellets. Breeding: Prolific; spot patterning varies in offspring; select for best mint base and spot contrast. Compatibility: Peaceful; community-safe with small, non-predatory fish and invertebrates.
