Pseudotropheus minutus
Also known as: Minute Mbuna, Dwarf Mbuna
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Minute Mbuna is a compact, relatively mild-mannered mbuna from Lake Malawi that reaches only around 8cm, making it suitable for smaller rift lake aquaria. Males display blue colouration with faint vertical barring and an orange-tipped dorsal fin. Its smaller size and reduced aggression make it an approachable species for beginners.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; good mechanical and biological filtration. Tank: Minimum 120L; rocky arrangement with caves sized for smaller fish. Feeding: Spirulina pellets, algae-based flake, and occasional mysis or brine shrimp. Behaviour: Less aggressive than most mbuna; males still territorial but less damaging. Compatibility: Compatible with other small to medium mbuna; avoid very aggressive large mbuna.
