Origin: South America (Amazon basin, Brazil)
Moenkhausia lepidura or a related Moenkhausia species, the Mirror Tetra, is found in the Amazon basin of Brazil and is named for its extraordinarily reflective silver body that scatters light like a mirror surface. In large schools of 15 or more, this species creates a breathtaking, coordinated display. A hardy and adaptable species suitable for a range of community aquariums.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 5.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 80 L minimum; open mid-water swimming space with background planting. Feeding: Quality flake, micro-pellets and frozen brine shrimp and daphnia. Behaviour: Peaceful active schooling species; best in groups of 12+; coordinated swimming. Compatibility: Good with other medium-sized peaceful community fish.
