Apistogramma sp. 'Miua'
Also known as: Miua Dwarf Apisto, Undescribed Miua Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: Brazil
Apistogramma sp. 'Miua' is a yet-undescribed form very closely related to A. miua but distinguished by more pronounced color saturation across the body and fins, which some ichthyologists believe may warrant formal species status. It is known from an extremely restricted range within the Brazilian Amazon and appears only very rarely in the hobby.
Like A. miua, this form demands extreme blackwater conditions and is highly sensitive to water quality deviations. It is a demanding and challenging species suited only to experienced softwater specialists.
Its rarity and the uncertainty surrounding its taxonomic status make it an especially interesting fish for specialist collectors who want to contribute to documenting captive behavior and potentially aid in its eventual formal description.
Water: Extreme blackwater — pH 4.5–6.0, temperature 25–29°C, TDS under 40 ppm. Tank: 60 L dedicated blackwater setup; stable chemistry above all else. Feeding: Live micro-prey exclusively at first; very slow acclimation to frozen foods. Breeding: Cave spawner; species tank mandatory; very advanced keeper only. Compatibility: No tankmates recommended for breeding success.
