Cichla monoculus
Also known as: Monoculus Peacock Bass, Spotted Peacock Bass
Origin: South America
Cichla monoculus is widely distributed across the Amazon basin and is one of the more accessible peacock bass species in the hobby. Its single caudal ocellus and strong, streamlined body make it an impressive display fish for very large aquariums. Like all Cichla, it requires substantial filtration and space.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard water. Tank: Minimum 800L, powerful external filtration, open water column essential. Feeding: Carnivore; large live or defrosted fish, prawns, large sticks. Behaviour: Aggressive ambush predator; highly territorial in confined spaces. Compatibility: Species-only or with similarly large, equally aggressive fish.
