Also known as: Monotrete Patoca Puffer, Reticulated Brackish Puffer
Origin: Indo-Pacific (coastal rivers and estuaries)
This brackish Monotrete species from Indo-Pacific coastal river systems features a bold reticulated dark pattern on a pale background and grows to a substantial 25 cm. It is related to the Fahaka group and shares its powerfully built jaw structure capable of crushing thick mollusc shells. It occupies the tidal and estuarine zone of large rivers and requires brackish conditions for optimal long-term health.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, SG 1.005–1.015; brackish conditions essential for long-term health. Tank: Minimum 250 L; open sandy substrate, robust decor, and strong filtration for a messy feeder. Feeding: Clams, mussels, snails, crabs, and cockles; feed every 2–3 days. Behaviour: Aggressive and territorial; will attack all tankmates — strict solo housing. Compatibility: Species-only; individual housing in a dedicated brackish aquarium.
