Montipora undata
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Montipora undata forms a spreading encrusting or lightly plating growth with a distinctive wavy, ridged surface texture that sets it apart from smoother Montipora species. Available in vivid green, red, and sunset combinations, it encrusts over rockwork creating a natural carpet effect. Aquacultured specimens of prized colour morphs are available from specialist retailers and grow more robustly than wild-collected pieces.
Medium-high PAR (150–300). Moderate flow. Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, temp 24–27°C. Allow space to encrust — will compete with adjacent corals via direct contact. Frag by snapping encrusting sections from the rock; mount on frag plugs. Hardy and easy to keep. Good choice for filling mid-level rock surfaces in a reef display.
