Trichogaster microlepis
Also known as: Moonlight Gourami, Moonbeam Gourami
Origin: Thailand, Cambodia
The Moonlight Gourami (Trichogaster microlepis) is native to Thailand and Cambodia, where it inhabits slow-moving, heavily vegetated waters. Its smooth silver body and graceful form make it one of the most attractive members of the genus. It is generally peaceful but does best in well-maintained, slightly soft acidic water.
Water: temp 25–30°C, pH 6.0–7.0, soft to medium hardness preferred. Tank: minimum 120L; dense planting with floating cover for spawning and shade. Feeding: omnivore — flakes, blanched vegetables, live and frozen invertebrates. Behaviour: peaceful; males may display to females but rarely cause injury. Compatibility: excellent community gourami; pairs well with tetras, rasboras, and corydoras.
