Ivanacara adoketa
Also known as: Mosaic Dwarf Cichlid, Adoketa Cichlid
Origin: South America (Brazil, upper Rio Negro)
Ivanacara adoketa is a monotypic genus from the extreme blackwaters of the upper Rio Negro in Brazil, considered by many hobbyists to be among the most beautiful of all cichlids. Its extraordinary mosaic pattern of deep blue-black spots covers every surface of the body and fins, intensifying dramatically in soft, very acidic water. Despite its beauty, it is a demanding species requiring exceptional water quality and a specialist biotope setup.
Water: 25-29°C, pH 4.5-6.0, GH 0-3, KH 0-1; pure blackwater conditions non-negotiable. Tank: 80L minimum; heavy leaf litter, driftwood, peat filtration, dim lighting, and dark substrate. Feeding: Omnivore; live artemia, micro-worms, and copepods; reluctant to accept prepared foods. Behaviour: Peaceful but males territorial toward rivals; pair bonds can be strong. Compatibility: Species tank only; too sensitive for mixed community aquaria.
