Boraras brigittae
Also known as: Mosquito Rasbora, Chili Rasbora
Origin: Peninsular Malaysia
Boraras brigittae is commonly traded as both the 'Mosquito Rasbora' and 'Chili Rasbora', leading to some confusion in the hobby. This listing refers to the slimmer-bodied morph with a more prominent horizontal red stripe. Like all Boraras, it requires very soft, acidic blackwater conditions to show its best colouration.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 4.5–6.5, very soft (GH 1–6); peat or almond leaves recommended. Tank: 20 L minimum; dark blackwater setup with fine planting and leaf litter. Feeding: Baby brine shrimp, Cyclops, micro pellets, micro worms. Behaviour: Peaceful micro schooler; keep 10+; males display boldly in the right conditions. Compatibility: Nano shrimp, other Boraras species; avoid anything larger than 4 cm.
