Potamotrygon motoro
Origin: Amazon / Paraguay (captive-bred)
Potamotrygon motoro — the Motoro or ocellate river stingray — is one of the most commonly kept freshwater stingray species. Its distinctive orange-yellow ocelli (eye spots) on a brown-grey disc are unmistakable. It is venomous (barb) and requires experienced handling. It needs very large, wide tanks with fine sand for burying, pristine water quality, and a diet of meaty whole prey. Feeding live/fresh whole earthworms and fish is essential. A specialist, long-lived species.
SPECIALIST. WARNING: Venomous barb. Tank: 500+ L wide/shallow. Fine sand. Pristine water. Feed: earthworms, whole market shrimp, white fish. Strict quarantine. CITES II compliance.
