Ctenopoma oxyrhynchum
Also known as: Mottled Ctenopoma, Leaffish Ctenopoma
Origin: Central Africa
Ctenopoma oxyrhynchum is a medium-sized, masterfully camouflaged bushfish from the Congo River drainage, where it uses its mottled brown leaf-like appearance to ambush prey. It is nocturnal and secretive, spending much of the day hidden among plants and wood. Despite being predatory, it is manageable with larger tankmates.
Water: temp 23–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, moderate hardness. Tank: minimum 100L; heavily decorated with driftwood, leaf litter, and robust plants. Feeding: carnivore — live invertebrates, frozen bloodworm, small earthworms, carnivore pellets. Behaviour: nocturnal ambush predator; peaceful with fish too large to eat. Compatibility: suitable with medium to large robust fish; avoid small tetras or shrimp.
