Origin: India, Myanmar, Thailand
Acanthocobitis urophthalmus is a delicate and graceful cobitid loach with fine brownish mottling over a cream base, and a characteristic ocellated spot near the tail base. It rests frequently on the substrate and among leaf litter, relying on its camouflage. Best kept in small groups with gentle water movement and a natural-looking soft-bottomed aquarium.
Water: 22-26°C, pH 6.5-7.5, soft, gentle flow. Tank: Minimum 60 L, soft sand, leaf litter, low lighting conditions. Feeding: Small sinking foods, micro-worms, daphnia, finely chopped frozen foods. Behaviour: Quiet bottom dweller; mostly active at dawn and dusk. Compatibility: Very peaceful; suitable for community with similar-sized gentle species.
