Cyphotilapia frontosa
Also known as: Mpimbwe Frontosa, Blue Mpimbwe Frontosa
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
The Mpimbwe Frontosa is a particularly beautiful regional variant of Cyphotilapia frontosa found along the Mpimbwe coastline of Lake Tanganyika. The striking blue colouration that infuses its white body between the black bars distinguishes it from other Frontosa populations. Like all Frontosas, it is a slow-growing, long-lived deep-water predator requiring exceptional care.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; very stable conditions; deep water has less temperature fluctuation. Tank: Minimum 500L; open mid-water zones with rocky caves along the back and sides. Feeding: Large sinking pellets, frozen prawns, krill, and whole fish once or twice weekly. Behaviour: Gregarious and slow-paced; form hierarchical colonies in the wild and adapt well to group life. Compatibility: Frontosa colony or with very large peaceful Tanganyika species only.
