Linckia multifora
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
Linckia multifora is a smaller and more variably patterned relative of the Blue Linckia Star, displaying mottled combinations of red, orange, pink, and cream. It is particularly renowned for its tendency toward spontaneous arm autotomy—voluntarily shedding limbs that then regenerate into new individuals—making it a fascinating study in echinoderm biology. Like other Linckia species, it requires an established, mature reef with stable parameters and diverse microfauna for long-term success.
Acclimate very slowly using the drip method over 2+ hours. Requires a mature reef with live rock covered in coralline algae and diverse microbial communities. Never expose to air and avoid rapid salinity fluctuations. Not compatible with aggressive fish or invertebrate predators.
