About

Melanotaenia fluviatilis, the Murray River or Crimson-Spotted Rainbowfish, is native to the Murray-Darling basin in southeastern Australia. Males display a silver-green body with rows of red-orange spots along the flanks; females are plainer but attractive. One of the coolest-water tolerant rainbowfish — comfortable at 18–24 °C, making it ideal for unheated tanks. A community fish suitable alongside temperate species and cold-water tetras.

Care Guide

School of 6+. Temperature 18–24 °C (unheated acceptable). Neutral to slightly alkaline. Varied diet: flake, spirulina, frozen bloodworm. 100+ L. Hardy and forgiving of minor parameter swings.
