Dario hysginon
Also known as: Myanmar Badis, Myanmar Dario, Hysginon Dario
Origin: Myanmar, Irawaddy River drainage
Dario hysginon was described in 2002 from the Irawaddy River drainage in Myanmar. It is similar in size and form to the Scarlet Badis but exhibits different colour patterning, with more orange-red base colouration and contrasting teal-blue scales. As with all Dario species, males are strikingly colourful while females are cryptically brown. It requires exclusively live or frozen micro foods.
Water: 20–26 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft freshwater; stable parameters essential. Tank: 20 L minimum; nano planted setup with moss, caves, and gentle filtration. Feeding: Micro live/frozen foods only — baby brine shrimp, Cyclops, micro-Daphnia, Grindal worms. Behaviour: Males territorial; keep as pairs or in a small group with more females than males. Compatibility: Species tank or with extremely peaceful nano fish; safe with adult dwarf shrimp.
