Pseudogastromyzon myersi
Also known as: Myers' Hillstream Loach, Myers' Sucker Loach
Origin: China
Pseudogastromyzon myersi is a stout-bodied gastromyzontid with a strong sucking disc, fine spotted patterning and broad fins adapted to extreme river-torrent conditions. Its care is very similar to P. cheni, and the two species can share a well-appointed hillstream aquarium. Like all Pseudogastromyzon, it requires cool, hard, highly oxygenated water and will struggle in warmer or soft-water setups.
Water: 18-24°C, pH 7.0-7.8, hard, high oxygen, strong current essential. Tank: Minimum 60 L, large smooth boulders, high flow rate, minimal planting. Feeding: Biofilm grazer; algae wafers, blanched vegetables, spirulina. Behaviour: Diurnal and visible; glides across boulders grazing all surfaces. Compatibility: Peaceful community with hillstream loaches and upland species.
