Pseudogastromyzon myersi
Origin: China (southern China, Hong Kong)
Pseudogastromyzon myersi is a beautifully patterned flat-bodied hillstream loach from Hong Kong and the Pearl River drainage of southern China, adapted for life in fast-flowing, highly oxygenated mountain streams. Its depressed body, pectoral and pelvic fin pads, and powerful suction allow it to cling to smooth boulders in strong current. Mottled tan-and-brown coloration provides near-perfect camouflage against rocky substrates. It grazes on biofilm and periphyton and requires a mature aquarium with naturally grown algae.
Provide a mature aquarium with powerheads creating strong, directional flow over smooth rock surfaces. Ensure high dissolved oxygen levels (cooler water, surface agitation). Feed on biofilm, algae wafers, blanched zucchini, and spirulina tabs. Avoid housing with aggressive or large bottom-dwelling fish.
