Myloplus rhomboidalis
Also known as: Myloplus Rhomboid, Rhomboid Silver Dollar
Origin: Amazon and Orinoco basins, South America
Myloplus rhomboidalis was reclassified from Myleus in recent years following molecular study. It presents a clean rhomboid body profile in silver with subtle warm iridescence and is found across the Amazon and Orinoco drainages. Behaviourally and in care requirements it is nearly identical to its Myleus relatives.
For collectors interested in the taxonomy and diversity of the Serrasalmidae, assembling a mixed school including both Myleus and Myloplus species creates an educational and visually compelling display. Both genera thrive under the same conditions.
Not subject to piranha restrictions.
