Pseudocheilinus evanidus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Mystery Wrasse is a subtly beautiful marine species displaying a distinctive pattern of fine horizontal white lines on a pinkish-red body—an understated elegance that appeals to discerning reef keepers. Found across the Indo-Pacific, it inhabits areas of rich coral growth, darting rapidly between coral branches. Despite its small size and attractive appearance, it can be assertive toward similar-looking or similarly sized species and requires careful pairing.
Provide a mature reef aquarium with abundant coral structure and hiding places. Feed a varied diet of frozen mysis, copepods, and small meaty foods twice daily. May prey on small ornamental shrimp and tiny crustaceans. Ensure a tight-fitting lid as wrasses are skilled jumpers.
