Nangra nangra
Also known as: Nangra Torrent Catfish, Nangra Catfish
Origin: India, Nepal, Bangladesh
Nangra nangra is a medium-sized member of the Amblycipitidae closely adapted to the powerful hill streams draining the Himalayan foothills. Built compactly with broad, flattened paired fins for adhesion in fast water, it predates invertebrates and small fish from rocky refuge spots. Less frequently encountered than Amblyceps relatives, it is a rewarding find for hillstream catfish specialists.
Water: 18-24°C, pH 6.5-7.5, cool, well-oxygenated, moderate to strong flow. Tank: Minimum 80 L, large boulders, slate caves, dimmed lighting. Feeding: Frozen bloodworm, chopped earthworm, sinking carnivore pellets. Behaviour: Nocturnal; shelters under boulders in daylight, hunts in current at night. Compatibility: Peaceful with medium-large fish; predatory toward small fish and shrimp.
