Nannacara adoketa
Also known as: Mosaic Nannacara, Adoketa Dwarf Cichlid
Origin: South America (Brazil, Rio Negro)
Nannacara adoketa is a rarely exported species from the extreme blackwaters of the Rio Negro in Brazil. Its remarkable mosaic pattern of blue-black spots on a golden-yellow background makes it one of the most visually distinctive of all dwarf cichlids. It shares the demands of other Rio Negro endemics — very soft, very acidic water with minimal mineral content — and is best reserved for experienced keepers.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 4.5-6.0, GH 0-3, KH 0-1; near-pure blackwater conditions mandatory. Tank: 60L minimum; heavily tannin-stained with leaf litter, driftwood, and dim lighting. Feeding: Omnivore; live artemia nauplii and micro-worms; slow to accept prepared foods. Behaviour: Peaceful and somewhat shy; females guard eggs in caves or leaf litter. Compatibility: Species tank or with other extreme blackwater specialists only.
