Nannocharax Parvus

Nannocharax parvus is among the smallest representatives of the genus, reaching only about 3.5 cm in length, making it a genuine nano fish for dedicated micro-aquarium setups. Its delicate patterning consists of fine mottling across a pale body, providing camouflage against the sandy and leaf-strewn bottoms of its Congo basin homeland.

Care requirements are consistent with other Nannocharax species: very soft, slightly acidic water, fine sand substrate, leaf litter, low flow, and subdued lighting. Because of its diminutive size, tankmates must be chosen with great care — anything larger than a small dwarf shrimp or nano tetra could predate or outcompete it.

Nannocharax parvus is best maintained as a species tank or in a carefully curated nano biotope. Feeding should focus on the very smallest live and frozen invertebrates: micro-worm, paramecium cultures, and baby brine shrimp nauplii are ideal.

Water: Soft and acidic, pH 5.5–7.0, temperature 23–27°C, GH 0–6, KH 0–3. Tank: Minimum 40 L nano biotope with fine sand, leaf litter, and very low flow. Feeding: Omnivore; micro-worm, paramecium, baby brine shrimp nauplii, and nano-size dry foods. Breeding: Presumed egg scatterer in soft acidic conditions; fry require paramecium or similar micro-foods. Compatibility: Species tank recommended; may coexist with nano shrimp or similarly tiny peaceful fish.
