Nanochromis transvestitus
Origin: Lake Mai Ndombe, Congo
Nanochromis transvestitus is an unusual West African dwarf cichlid from Mai Ndombe Lake in Congo where it occupies rock and sand margins. Remarkably, the female is more vividly coloured than the male — she displays an intense pink-purple belly, while the male is blue-grey and yellow. A cave-spawner requiring very soft, slightly acidic water. Rarely available and prized by dwarf cichlid enthusiasts. Sold as a sexed pair.
Soft acidic water pH 5.5–7.0, very low KH. Temperature 24–28 °C. Sandy substrate with flat stones and caves. Feed micro-pellets, frozen bloodworm and artemia. Sensitive to dissolved organics — pristine water essential. Not suitable for hard Belgian tap water without RO mixing.
