Carinotetraodon imitator
Also known as: Narrow Bar Imitator Puffer, Narrow Bar Puffer
Origin: Southern India (Western Ghats streams)
Carinotetraodon imitator 'Narrow Bar' is a geographically isolated form from specific Western Ghats river drainages in India, characterised by thinner, more elongated vertical barring compared to the typical Imitator Puffer population. Its miniature size, active personality, and captivating patterning make it a desirable choice for planted nano puffer tanks.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard; pristine water quality and frequent partial changes. Tank: Minimum 40 L; heavily planted with Java moss, floating plants, and dense hardscape. Feeding: Ramshorn snails, live or frozen bloodworm, daphnia, and micro-invertebrates. Behaviour: Territorial; males especially aggressive — provide dense planting to break sightlines. Compatibility: Species-only; keep one male per tank with careful monitoring of female conspecifics.
