Neocaridina davidi var. 'Painted Blue'
Also known as: Painted Blue Shrimp, High Grade Blue Neocaridina
Origin: Selectively bred; base species from Taiwan and China
The Neocaridina davidi Painted Blue is a high-grade refinement beyond the standard Blue Velvet morph, selectively bred for maximum pigment density and near-total body opacity. Where standard Blue Velvet retains some translucency, the Painted Blue achieves a deep, almost painted solid blue coverage with minimal transparency visible even through the body. This produces a shrimp of exceptional visual intensity that stands out brilliantly in planted aquariums, especially against dark substrates and lush green plant backgrounds. Despite its premium appearance, the Painted Blue retains the full hardiness and adaptability of all Neocaridina davidi morphs, tolerating a broad range of tap water conditions without specialized equipment.
Water: pH 6.5–8.0, TDS 150–400 ppm, temperature 18–28°C; standard tap water adequate. Tank: 20+ litres; dark substrate preferred; planted; sponge or HOB filtration. Feeding: Biofilm, algae, color-enhancing shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables. Breeding: Prolific; select most opaque and deeply pigmented specimens to maintain Painted Blue grade. Compatibility: Peaceful; community-compatible; avoid mixing with lower-grade blue Neocaridina morphs.
