Neolamprologus caudopunctatus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Neolamprologus caudopunctatus is a charming, moderately sized Tanganyikan cichlid recognized by the distinctive row of dark spots on its caudal peduncle—the feature that gives the species its name. An open-water spawner with a sociable disposition compared to many lamprologines, it can be kept in small groups in a well-decorated rocky aquarium, where it demonstrates fascinating territorial and courtship behavior. Its active, inquisitive nature and modest size make it a delightful addition to a Tanganyikan community tank.
Provide a rocky aquarium with multiple caves and territories. Maintain hard, alkaline water replicating Lake Tanganyika conditions. Feed with high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen mysis, and artemia. Can be kept in groups; reduce aggression by providing sufficient territory per pair.
